How to improve concept and design as a graphic designer

Graphic design is a rapidly evolving field, both creative and technical, and while it's easy to get caught up in learning new technical skills, it is equally important to focus improving and expanding the limits our creativity.

While in design school, it was easy to surround myself inspiration and involved in activities that have contributed to my understanding of effective design. Once I graduated I was afraid of losing it, because it was no longer surrounded by a learning environment. I made a point to get more information as much as possible and to be more active in the field of design. I am determined not to let my drawings grow stagnant, but transgress and improve over time. Here are some tips, exercises and practices that help to keep learning, enhance creativity and become better every designer.

Become a collector

Whenever you see a design that inspires you, pick it up, take it home and show it in the trash. I have hundreds of pamphlets, posters and other guarantees I have collected over the years that are stacked away in folders and boxes that can be accessed quickly - a great source of inspiration where necessary. Even Starbucks creative mini-newspaper distributed weekly.

Buy books

Having an extensive collection of books is always essential for learning. I try to buy a new book at least every two weeks topics ranging from the inspirational, educational and technical.

Read the design related blogs

I can not stress enough how much information you have learned by reading other great designers blogs. The website an invaluable resource of information - enjoy it and actually use!

Having started this blog a few months ago, I found it very helpful and informative for me. It made me more aware of the design community and analytical of my own work.
Join and be active in the design community

As a freelance designer, to join the online design community is a necessity. Not only keep you in the world of design, but also ideal for comment and criticism. Being your own boss is great, but having no one to answer as a freelancer has its bad sides. Nobody criticize their work and help improve.

Take lots of pictures

Solving the problem of not being able to take home designs you like - camera phones is ideal for this kind of thing. Just take a photo and submit it for later. I use Evernote for this kind of thing; Pictures of the construction of models, textures, shapes of shadows on the walls. Basically, anything that excites me from a design standpoint.

Create practice/ sample  projects

Whenever I find myself with free time (which is less and less these days) I can create fake projects. Creating a false brand for a company. Design a logo, stationery, brochures, web page - the whole nine yards. It is good to do from time to time as it keeps the fun design and let your creativity without limits. It is often easy to get stuck in a rut when customers begin to dictate and your work becomes more "exemplary".

Repeat the design of other

I do not want to create a false brand design? Try the consolidation of other projects. In assessing what "they" did wrong and what they could best do this assistance.

Redo your old models

I know how it feels to see his early days of design and thinking "Oh! What was I thinking? I have to get rid of it immediately," but it is important to keep this job. It will help you see if you go ahead and improve their skills. Instead of throwing or delete old projects, try adjusting.

Attend conferences

Every few months, I make a point to attend other conferences designers language in local schools and universities. Always learn a few things.

Network with other designers

Attending conferences is a great way to meet other designers. I always try to look for designers who are more experienced and talented than me. I know - it's hard to accept that someone is better than you, but networking with people from the highest to push to work harder and learn more levels.

Attain classes

Many local university can enroll in classes without a full-time enrollment. Not only it teaches new things technically, but also got back to their peers in a classroom.
Interview other designers and studios

A year ago, a friend of mine, began a "national study visit" where he visited and interviewed more than 100 studies of different design. He said the experience was amazing and I learned a lot by asking questions that the design school never responded. He also met with beautiful useful contacts;)

Travel

Each time I travel to another country , I come back feeling very inspired . I often find myself designing every day by a staircase a few weeks. Experiencing new cultures and see their artwork , open your mind to a whole new world. I just wish I could travel more !
Learn something new

Whenever I 'm in a bad creative streak try something new or do something completely alien to conceive. Stop thinking about things and something new , usually it has a funny way of working around.
Take a sketchbook
It allows you to work through ideas quickly and limitless design software . He made a big difference in my creations . See the example of what another designer importance sketch here and here.
